Afrikaners in South Africa

Image
Afrikaners in SA Afrikaners are a Southern African ethnic group descended from predominantly Dutch settlers first arriving in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. They traditionally dominated South Africa 's agriculture and politics prior to 1994. Afrikaans , South Africa's third-most widely spoken home language, is the mother tongue of Afrikaners and most Cape Coloureds . It evolved from the Dutch vernacular of South Holland , incorporating words brought from the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia ) and Madagascar by slaves. Afrikaners make up approximately 5.2% of the total South African population based on the number of white South Africans who speak Afrikaans as a first language in the South African National Census of 2011 . Afrikaans/ Afrikaners in the Cape The Afrikaans dialect spoken today originates from the Dutch language spoken by early settlers in the 1600s. However, modern Afrikaans is in fact an accumulation of many other influences, whi

Ndebele's in South Africa

Image
Ndebele in South Africa The Northern Ndebele people ( Zimbabwean Ndebele : amaNdebele ) are a Bantu nation and ethnic group in Southern Africa , who share a common Ndebele culture and Ndebele language . The Northern Ndebele were historically referred to as the Matabele which was a European corruption of 'Ndebele'. Their history began when a Zulu chiefdom split from King Shaka in the early 19th century under the leadership of Mzilikazi , a former chief in his kingdom and ally. Under his command the disgruntled Zulus went on to conquer and rule the chiefdoms of the Southern Ndebele . This was where the name and identity of the eventual kingdom was adopted. Baby Mama issue's Most Ndebele trace their ancestry to the area that is now called KwaZulu-Natal. The history of the Ndebele people can be traced back to Mafana, their first identifiable chief. Mafana’s son and successor, Mhlanga, had a son named Musi who, in the early 1600’s, decided to move away from

Xhosa Vs Zulu

Xhosa Vs Zulu So briefly we all now know what and who the Xhosa and Zulu people are. To briefly say, they are two of South Arica's largest ethnic group. This is a talk of power and a talk of secret hatred. When Dutch settlers came to South Africa, without a doubt almost all the African ethnic group went into war straight. As we know a few wars were won and a few wars were lost. Fast forward to when the British came to South Africa. Now the British knew how to colonized (the dutch can learn a thing or two). So later on the British concord and made the Zulus and Xhosa bow. Yep the most ignorant tribe in Africa (Zulu) bowed. Xhosa leaders didn't of cause want to bow and surrender. Readers; if you were a leader of a tribe and you fought Dutch, Portuguese, Germans and now faced with English! Your army must have reduced by the thousand (or even millions). It was almost as if the British were waiting for the African tribes to of been exhausted and then they'd attack. See

Xhosa's in South Africa

Image
Xhosa The Xhosa are the second largest cultural group in South Africa, after the Zulu-speaking nation. The Xhosa language (Isixhosa), of which there are variations, is part of the Nguni language group.    In 2006 it was determined that just over 7 million South Africans speak Xhosa as a home language. Although they speak a common language, Xhosa people belong to many loosely organized, but distinct chiefdoms that have their origins in their Nguni ancestors. It is important to question how and why the Nguni speakers were separated into the sub-group known today. The majority of central northern Nguni people became part of the Zulu kingdom, whose language and traditions are very similar to the Xhosa nations - the main difference is that the latter abolished circumcision. In order to understand the origins of the Xhosa people we must examine the developments of the southern Nguni, who intermarried with Khoikhoi (I wrote a little short story on that a while back) and ret

Zulu Look i don't care whether your from England, Japan or Pakistan. When you are from outside Africa, and someone say's the word "Africa" you think "Zulu". I never understand why Zulu's are such a huge representation of Africa. I mean some of you guys reading oversees won't know Gregory Porter (today's most famous jazz artist) but you know the there is a Zulu tribe somewhere in Africa. Well, lets talk about the most famous clan/tribe this world has witnessed. Let's talk about the Zulu's. I ain't really a Zulu fan. Most of my bullies in high school were Zulu's. The Zulu ( Zulu : amaZulu ) are a Bantu ethnic group of Southern Africa and the largest ethnic group in South Africa , with an estimated 10–11 million people living mainly in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . Small numbers also live in Zimbabwe , Zambia , Tanzania and Mozambique . Wikipedia says there are 10 659 309 Zulus in South Africa. that is almost twen

Origin Of South Africa    You will literally find it on Africa's bo ttum tip Over a hundred thousand years ago people in what is now South Africa lived by hunting animals and gathering plants. They used stone tools. Then about 2,000 years ago people in the west learned to herd sheep and cattle. About 200 AD people mixed farming (growing crops as well as raising livestock) and iron tools were introduced into the east of South Africa. At the end of the 15th Century the Portuguese sailed past the Cape of Good Hope. However it was not until 1652 that the Europeans founded a colony in South Africa. In 1652 the Dutch, led by Jan van Riebeeck founded a base where ships travelling to the Far East could be supplied. From 1658 the Dutch imported slaves into South Africa. Meanwhile, at first the Europeans traded with the native people but they soon fell out. In 1658 they fought their first war, the first of many. Gradually the Dutch colony in South Africa expande
